School is supposed to be reading, writing and ‘rithmetic, eh? Well, not every day, thank goodness. The GCSE students from The O’Brien Language & Examination Centre spent a day away from their desks and tablets in the gorgeous surroundings of Moratalla, experiencing not only ‘real’ rivers, rocks and canals, but learning more in a few hours than would probably be learnt indoors over several days. The before-dusk departure gave plenty of time for measuring, observing and photographing all the features that had previously only been in their textbooks. When these students sit their exams they will will not only be able draw on classroom-based material but will be able to recall a vivid, enjoyable and worthwhile experience, as long as they don’t include in their exam: ‘my teacher fell into the river and I laughed all the way home.
Our Mission Statement
Our centre was established and granted a licence by the Town Hall of San Miguel de Salinas in June 2013. Once we had this licence we applied for and were granted examination centre status by the UK-based AQA examination board. The centre was established to provide first-class education to a wide range of students of all ages and abilities within a supportive yet disciplined environment.
Our centre is based at Calle Alberto Barbera 17, 1a, almost next door to the post office. These premises have been professionally adapted to supply both group and individual tuition, allowing students their own study space as well as dedicated rooms for more relaxing periods. This facility includes kitchen usage.
Our centre has seen primary-age children achieve the results to move successfully into the next stage of their Spanish schooling, older ex-pat students achieving their academic goals which have led to Further or Higher Educational placements both in Spain and the U.K., older native Spanish attending revision classes and adults finding satisfaction in improving their conversational Spanish.
The internationally-regarded Cambridge Certificate is now a validated component of our curriculum, a qualification which will lead to professional advancement throughout Spain and, indeed, Europe.
