School is supposed to be reading, writing and ‘rithmetic, eh? Well, not every day, thank goodness. The GCSE students from The O’Brien Language & Examination Centre spent a day away from their desks and tablets in the gorgeous surroundings of Moratalla, experiencing not only ‘real’ rivers, rocks and canals, but learning more in a few hours than would probably be learnt indoors over several days. The before-dusk departure gave plenty of time for measuring, observing and photographing all the features that had previously only been in their textbooks. When these students sit their exams they will will not only be able draw on classroom-based material but will be able to recall a vivid, enjoyable and worthwhile experience, as long as they don’t include in their exam: ‘my teacher fell into the river and I laughed all the way home.
